Tehran, Iran – Tensions in the Middle East have escalated significantly after the United States carried out “very successful” airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. Immediately, Iranian state television issued menacing statements, implying that “every American is now a target.”
In unverified footage shared on social media, an Iranian state news television presenter was seen with a graphic of the Middle East behind him, where red flags allegedly marked possible military targets. Addressing President Donald Trump directly, the presenter reportedly declared: “You started it, and we will end it.”
The US attacks, executed by B-2 stealth bombers carrying six 15-ton “bunker-busting bombs” (GBU-47s), aimed to put Iran’s efforts to build a nuclear weapon “out of reach,” according to Senate Republican Leader John Thune. Thune stated, “The regime in Iran, which has committed itself to bringing ‘death to America’ and wiping Israel off the map, has rejected all diplomatic pathways to peace. The mullahs’ misguided pursuit of nuclear weapons must be stopped.”
Initial analysis suggests Iran may retaliate through its proxies in Yemen, where Houthi rebels have already called the strikes “the beginning of a war.” Iran also has the capability to effectively shut down access to the Straits of Hormuz, a critical oil shipping route, potentially causing severe global economic consequences.
While President Trump announced no plans for additional airstrikes and expressed hope for Iran to return to the negotiating table, US forces in the region remain on high alert for retaliation. US officials have repositioned aircraft carriers to the Middle East, including the USS Nimitz, USS Gerald R Ford, and USS Carl Vinson, with the aim of deterrence.
The airstrikes have caused a split in US political circles, with Republicans like Congressman Dan Crenshaw and Senator John Fetterman supporting the President’s decision, while some Democrats have called for Congress to vote to prevent another “endless Middle East war.”
Amid escalating tensions, former US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for the Middle East, Simone Ledeen, remarked that these attacks send a powerful message to both Russia and China, demonstrating that the US is not as weak as they might perceive.
With the harsh statements from Iranian state television and the vow of retaliation, the world is closely monitoring every subsequent move from Tehran and Washington, concerned about a broader conflict in an already unstable region.
