For us at Marley’s Mutts, it’s not just about feeding a few dogs; it’s about feeding dozens of hungry mouths, each with their own unique needs and personalities. It’s a full-time commitment, and it comes with a hefty price tag.
Every year, we spend $82 a day, $576 a week, $2,500 a month, and a whopping $30,000 a year just on food for the dogs in our care. These costs come with the territory when you’re rescuing dogs, especially when you’re dedicated to providing them with the best nutrition possible to help them thrive in their new lives.
The reality is, when you take in as many dogs as we do, you’re not just paying for food. You’re paying for the well-being of animals who’ve had difficult lives, who need to heal, both physically and emotionally, before they can fully trust again. The nutrition we provide helps them heal, gives them energy, and ensures they stay healthy while they wait for their forever homes. But this is just one part of the equation. Every other aspect of rescue—medical care, shelter, training, and supplies—adds to the burden of ensuring these dogs are safe and cared for.
