Portland, Oregon – Multiple police officers were injured Saturday night during a violent riot at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Portland. A mob launched fireworks, smoke grenades, and threw rocks at federal law enforcement, breaking glass and forcibly entering the ICE facility, according to Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. Four officers sustained injuries during the attack, though federal law enforcement managed to secure the facility.
The riot followed a “No Kings” protest earlier in the day, which officials described as a “large-scale free speech gathering.” Tens of thousands marched through downtown Portland, returning to Waterfront Park, about five miles from the ICE facility.

The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) declared an unlawful assembly near the facility around 6:30 p.m. local time, warning of crowd control measures. Approximately 30 minutes later, a medical event was reported inside the ICE facility, prompting PPB to warn rioters not to interfere with medical personnel or police action.

By 8 p.m., PPB observed criminal activity, including assault and criminal mischief, and began making targeted arrests. The number of arrests remains unclear. Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated, “Portland rioters are violently targeting federal law enforcement and we won’t sit idly by and watch these cowards.” She reiterated that ICE and federal law enforcement partners would continue to enforce the law and prosecute those who assault officers.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) also addressed the “doxxing” of its ICE agents on X, where posters around the city displayed agents’ identities, photos, and addresses. DHS affirmed it would not be deterred by such intimidation and threats, stating that ICE immigration enforcement would “only ramp up.”
