The Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, was illuminated in red, white, and blue on Thursday night in a stunning tribute to President Donald J. Trump, marking what officials called a “historic and unprecedented visit” to the United Arab Emirates.
As part of a broader Middle East diplomatic tour, President Trump arrived in Abu Dhabi earlier in the day, where he met with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to discuss regional security, economic cooperation, and expanding strategic ties between the United States and the Gulf nation.
In celebration of the occasion, Dubai’s skyline was emblazoned with a digital projection of the American flag on the Burj Khalifa shortly after nightfall, drawing cheers from onlookers and tourists gathered around the Dubai Fountain.
“This illumination represents the strength of U.S.-UAE relations and our shared vision for peace, prosperity, and stability,” said UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash. “President Trump’s visit reaffirms the importance of cooperation across multiple sectors, including defense, technology, and trade.”
Trump’s visit marks the first official trip to the UAE by a sitting U.S. president in over two decades, underscoring what the White House called a “milestone moment in the evolution of American diplomacy in the Gulf.”
The president was also expected to tour Masdar City, the UAE’s hub for renewable energy innovation, and attend a bilateral economic forum aimed at boosting American investment in Emirati infrastructure and defense industries.
During a joint press conference, Trump praised the UAE as “a strong and forward-looking partner in the region,” adding that “our alliance is built on trust, mutual interests, and a commitment to defeating extremism and advancing peace.”
The visit comes amid heightened focus on regional tensions with Iran and follows Trump’s previous stops in Saudi Arabia and Israel, where he promoted a united front among Middle Eastern allies.
The Burj Khalifa, known for commemorating global events and world leaders through its LED displays, last lit up in American colors during the U.S. Independence Day celebrations in 2020. Thursday’s tribute marked the first time the tower honored a visiting American president by name.
The U.S. delegation is set to depart for Europe following the UAE leg of the trip.
